2026-2027 TEA Testing Calendar
Soooooo……..the fall break is either over or in full swing! But, testing is never too far from our consciousness here in Texas! But, when will all this testing actually occur!
You can read all about it in the
TEA Student Assessment Testing Calendar for 2026-2027
Let me highlight a few things in this year’s testing calendar!
This year, you’ll see a new assessment appearing under the title “Student Success Tool (SST) Stand-Alone Field Test”. If you had not heard, STAAR will be having its final administration in the 2026-2027 school year! Next year (2027-2028), it will be gone and replaced by the SST or Student Success Tool as a result of House Bill 8 which officially replaces the STAAR test with the new SST program starting in the 2027–2028 school year. This field test won’t be administered to every student nor every campus state wide, but to a sample of students and campuses who were infomed in August 2026. With SST,l instead of being tested once per year with STAAR, they will be assessed three times per year beginning, middle and end) - find out more about the SST here which includes requirements for test anxiety mitigation, results notification, simplified access to results, and new Monday administration rules.
Many of you may have heard of the “MAP” test or Measure of Academic Progress which usually occurs at the beginning, middle, and end of the year, but did you ever hear of the NAEP or National Assessment of Educational Progress? For a randomly selected sample of students, they may be participating in grade 8 this year (a science pilot)! It’s not administered every year and is overseen by the U.S. Department of Education (Not by the Texas Education Agency). You’ll be informed by your child’s school if your child is one of those randomly selected students! Note: NAEP appears on this school year’s TEA testing calendar!
Is your student identified as an Emergent Bilingual (EB) student? If so, he/she will most likely be participating in the TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency System) this coming spring. You’ll see that this year’s testing window spans a full 40 calendar days! This means your child will be testing sometime during those allowable days!
The STAAR testing window spans from March 15 through April 30th this year (with an additioanl window spanning November 30th through December 11th for high school)! Check the TEA testing calendar to know when your child will be expected to be sitting for those tests in their given grade! Have the following in mind, however: The “testing window” refers to an allowable time frame provided to school districts for administration of those tests, so always check with your child’s school for specific dates chosen by their district from within those testing window dates for a more accurate view on exactly when your child will be testing in their specific subject areas!
Finally, this year’s TEA testing calendar gives you a tentative date by which you can expect results to be available after your child has tested! Take a look and see! Remember to access your parent portal to see your child’s results and delve into the details of their performance for all sattetests including STAAR, SST, and TELPAS!
Happy reading, everyone!
